Hey folks! Welcome to Week 1 of my triathlon training series! (January 1, 2024 to January 7, 2024)
We’ve got about 30 weeks before my first evert triathlon! I will be completing an Olympic Distance Triathlon at the very end of July and so, we are starting out very early with training. Right now, I am focused on just getting off the couch. Mainly getting a little bit of short 5 minute runs and10 minute bike rides in. I also plan to start swimming and all of that so, welcome to my first week!
I already did my week 1 weigh-in and now I am ready to get started with training!
Week 1 – Weight = 217.8 Pounds
This first week starts with slow everything in the hopes my body will have a nice adjustment to being more active!
Workout #1 – My first workout was testing out my new (to me) road bike! I feel like it went as smooth and learning something new can!
Workout #2 – A quick five minute row on my rowing machine. I went ahead and knocked that out easy peasy.
Workout #3 – Weightlifting split A. A full body workout that focuses on working out every major muscle group in my chest, shoulders, quads, hamstrings, core and back! Luckily I have my own home gym to do all my lifting workouts in!
Workout #4 – A short 5 minute run on my elliptical machine… Because, I not ready to run outside yet!
Workout #5 – My first swimming workout! Now, swimming on a whole is a little bit more complicated because I have not swam in years. I was able to purchase a day punch pass with from a local swimming gym that I’m going to use.
When I was getting ready to head in for my first swim, I almost backed out of doing it. I have some mild anxiety when going to new places and doing things that I’m not comfortable with. So, I ended up having a a mild anxiety attack trying to walk in there. I ended up walking back out to my truck and just calming myself down. Then, I had to have a little heart to heart with myself. I ended up talking myself back into it. I knew that if I didn’t do it now, I was never going to do it.
I asked myself what I was so anxious about. It came down to feeling judged and that I was not good enough or fit enough to do this. But then I said you know what, no one really cares except for you. No one in that facility is going to be like oh look at that Lady walking in. They might say that my form really sucks but you know what she’s in there doing it. And with that little pep talk, I got myself back out of my truck and I walked in and swam 250 meters.
The first 50 meters went pretty good, after that I started to get a little tired. I started breaking down to 25 meters before resting. I really want to focus on my form next week and just make sure that I am taking care of myself. I need to get my breathing down and my strokes smoother so that I am not overexerting myself just trying to move nowhere.
Workout #6 – A 20 minute bike ride. To be honest, it’s my first real ride on my bike. Even though it is early January, I bundled up and headed to the greenbelt. It was due to start snowing so I set off and ended up completing a 24 minute ride. My legs definitely burned out on the way back but that was really fun!
Workout #7 – A 5 minute run. Honestly, I’m just trying to get through this run today. It snowed last night and the roads are really slick so I’m not gonna go run outside because I’m not going to fall this early.
Well, that wraps up week 1 of my training! It went about as good as I could have hoped. Now, on to my week 2 weigh-in!
